Corporate Reflexology

Did you know that 1 in 5 employees are struggling with mental health related issues? Did you know that even more employees fail to show up to work due to stress and anxiety?

Workplace stress is becoming more and more of an issue for Canadian employers. As shown in the statistics below, many employees have stress related issues that keep them from being happy, productive and efficient in the workplace.

Canadian Workplace Stress Statistics:

  • Depression is becoming the leading source of disability among Canadian corporations

  • Stress related absenteeism costs employees $3.5 billion each year

  • Presenteesim (the act of attending work while sick) costs employers $15 to $25 billion each year

  • 40% of short and long term disability claims are related to stress and mental health

  • 500,000 Canadian workers are absent from work each day because of mental health related issues

Workplace stress contributes to the following statistics:

  • 19% absenteeism

  • 40% of turnover

  • 60% of workplace accidents

  • 30% of short and long term disabilities

  • 70-90% of all hospital visits are directly related to stress

The following health issues are also attributed to high stress levels:

  • Heart attacks

  • Diabetes

  • Asthma

  • Chronic Pain

  • Insomnia

  • Allergies

  • Headache

  • Backache

  • Cancer

  • Depression

  • Immune System Weakness

Whatever the size of your business, it would make sense to improve on these statistics, which would mean less sick days, accidents, disabilities, and overall, more productivity and a positive morale. Focusing on workplace wellness is vital to an organization’s performance and success.

More and more forward thinking businesses have introduced complimentary therapies into the workplace as part of a stress management strategy.

Reflexology addresses many of the core areas of good health promotion, such as stress management, a reduction in nervous anxiety, improved sleep, stronger immune system, pain relief (especially back, neck and head), and improved digestion.

Benefits of reflexology in the workplace:

  • Reduced absenteeism

  • Quicker recovery time (from illness/injury)

  • Enhanced resistance to infection

  • Improved morale

  • Increased productivity

  • Improved ability of staff to cope under pressure

Reflexology is a non-intrusive and relaxing therapy, and treatments can take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the amount of time available. The practitioner brings a special chair for the clients to sit in and would only require a private room or area to work in.  Reflexology can be done on the feet, hands, face or ears.

Each company can choose their own level of involvement. Some companies subsidize treatments for their staff, while some use their health benefits. Others simply encourage their staff to receive regular treatments at their own cost.

Whether you want to incorporate reflexology into a Lunch & Learn, your regular safety meetings, occasional or regular treatment sessions (weekly, monthly or seasonally), the choice is yours!

If your business is interested in providing reflexology for your employees, feel free to contact me to discuss your organization’s needs.
